"No Knock" list keeps commercial solicitors, not political or religious canvassers, from knocking

As temperatures warm up, more and more people are headed outdoors. The Town wants to remind residents to be aware of solicitors scouring neighborhoods this summer.

A solicitor is anyone trying to sell goods or services door-to-door. Town ordinance requires solicitors to apply for a Town license and to comply with the Town's "No Knock" regulations.

Regulations include the restriction of soliciting between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and to avoid knocking on doors at addresses registered on the Town's "No Knock" list, displaying a Town "No Knock" sticker or displaying a "No Soliciting" sign.

Town Council approved the soliciting ordinance back in 2008. A Town "No Knock" list was then created. Residents can be added to the list by visiting CRgov.com/noknock.

The Town wants residents to keep in mind several things as "solicitor season" approaches.

Solicitors must present a copy of their Town license if asked by a resident. To view a sample license or a list of registered solicitors, visit CRgov.com/noknock. Town-issued badges are labeled with "Registered Solicitor" and include the solicitor's photo. These badges are the only identification considered valid. Town employee business cards, or other non-official identification, are not valid licenses.

If a solicitor knocks without a license, outside the allowed hours, or at a home with a "No Knock" sticker, residents can call Castle Rock Police nonemergency line, 303-663-6100. It is important to call when the solicitor is still in the area, so officers can address the situation.

It is important to note, the Town's ordinance restricting soliciting does not prohibit solicitors from hanging fliers on a door. Also, canvassers, such as religious or political groups, and noncommercial solicitors, such as schools, boy scouts or girl scouts are not regulated in any way.

For more information, or to request a "No Knock" sticker, contact Robbie Schonher, 303-660-2229 or rschonher@CRgov.com, or Lisa Anderson, 303-660-1374 or landerson@CRgov.com in the Town Clerk's office.
